O Canada! & Fictional Weddings
I’ve only been to Canada a handful of times.
I know my sampling hasn’t been extensive, but…
…I’ve yet to meet an unpleasant Canadian.
.:Nova Scotia
I went north to film behind the scenes interviews
for a Sony picture called “Jumping the Broom.”

Turns out… the airline lost all my equipment.
Turns out… I couldn’t have used it anyway.
It was my first day as a journalist…
…and possibly not my last.
I don’t have any pictures for you,
because they wouldn’t let me take any…
Just as they wouldn’t let the guy
who flew up from Birmingham
to take photos for his magazine.

But, Lunenburg was nice and nautical.
And I enjoyed a leisurely stroll
past brightly painted houses that all had signs
designating the year they were built
and for whom.
Kind of a nice way of being remembered, eh?
(see what I did there?)
.:Showings
Greyscale is getting close to completion,
and I am ready for that milestone
to be left in the dust.
Well, no… no, I’m not.

As soon as I start feeling that way,
I’m reminded that the process,
is as important as the result.
.:Fictional weddings
Compiling the guest list
for our first private showing
is a lot like planning a wedding
but inevitably someone will get stuck
watching from the front row.
I thought this film would have finished
a long time ago. But I remind myself,
that it’ll finish when it finishes,
and the film will do what it will do,
and I shouldn’t be one to complain
as it has already opened doors
to put food on my family’s table
even though it isn’t even finished yet.
I have a lot to be grateful for.
